Fuji city is the ideal place to get off the beaten track and explore and photograph urban and rural Japan. The juxtaposition of mega factories, the port, and the Shinkansen, with the natural landmarks such as the ocean, Fuji river and Mt Fuji,  make for a powerful backdrop to the green tea farms, rice paddies, shrines and temples all within a 5 Km radius of the hostel.

With buses leaving for Fujinomiya 5th station just across the road you can either wake up early in the morning and climb Mt Fuji as a day trip and come back to sleep at the hostel, or take it more leisurely and sleep up on the mountain and return the following day.

Day trips are easily accessed from the train across the road to Fujinomiya where you can see the Shiraito falls, Sengen Shrine and Tanuki lake.

If outdoor adventure activities are your thing, you can go white river rafting, bungee jumping, paragliding or on a go-karting tour.

One of our favourite things to do is to cycle along the sea or river, we have bicycles for rent for just 300 ‎¥‎ per day.

The hostel is ideally located directly across from Fuji station and Fuji Honcho (Main Street) where you can explore many local restaurants, bars and Karaoke spots all within a 5 min walking distance.

With trains and buses leaving from outside the hostel, we are a great place to stop off on your journey from Tokyo to Kyoto and experience Mt Fuji, nature and the Shizuoka countryside.

There are also free buses that can take you to the local onsen or the local games centre.

“Running Bare” is about discovery and adventure, finding something new and exciting. At our hostel you will have an authentic experience and see a slice of Japan.

The owner is a South African who has a passion for travel and making new friends. He has backpacked, traveled and worked in many countries around the world.

After coming to Japan to teach English, he fell in love with the country and decided to realize a long-time dream and open a hostel where he can share his passion for Japan.

We are proud to be located in Fuji City, this hidden gem has so much to offer. We look forward to showing you our beautiful and diverse city.

Handcrafted Japanese Capsules

Our beautiful handcrafted capsules were made by highly skilled Japanese craftsmen who specialize in Japanese traditional carpentry, the same style used on all the old shrines and temples. Even though screws were used in securing the construction of our capsules, non are needed to hold the structure up.  All wood used is local cedar from Mt Fuji and the walls inside each capsule are covered with Washi (Japanese handmade paper) making them feel traditional and cosy.
Our super comfortable mattresses and pillows will have you well rested and energized for your adventures to come.
These spacious capsules have there own large luggage space and a door allowing you to escape into you own space to get some privacy.

The host/owner is very friendly and very knowledgeable. He knows the local area well and gave a lot of time to explain different things to do. The beds were comfy and the place is really, really clean! It's also really easy to find as it is literally right outside Fuji station! I would certainly stay again 🙂
Running Bare is brilliant! Located next to the station, brand new facilities with sleeping pods and a roomy common area, but the staff are what makes it special. I felt included and had a fantastic time!
Hostel is very clean, fun social atmosphere. The beds are spacious and Comfortable, lots of place to store luggage and it has Universal chargers which was a nice touch. The owner is a great guy, had a party the night I was there and he ensured everyone was having a good time and was willing to help with anything I asked. The shower is spacious also which is nice and it is literally opposite the station. The convenience store is a very short walk away, about 3 or 4 minutes. Great place to stay. I'll definitely stay here again.
